A Pasadena human rights commission has recommended to the City Council that it submit to Pasadena’s sister-city in China a statement calling for a renewed effort in China to address human rights issues.

A Pasadena human rights commission has recommended to the City Council that it submit to Pasadena’s sister-city in China a statement calling for a renewed effort in China to address human rights issues.
Pasadena Human Relations Commission Chairman Kenneth Hardy announced last night that a report containing that and other recommendations has been approved by the commission and sent to the City Council.....

In its report, the commission also recommended the Council create an ad hoc committee to engage the Tournament of Roses Association and various groups, both in support of and opposed to having the Beijing float in the parade, in a dialogue with the goal of taking some concrete action.
The report said the commission does not believe that such talks will lead to a voluntary agreement to remove the Beijing float from the parade. But it said other actions might be taken, including some suggested by those opposed to the Beijing float.One suggestion is to have someone such as the Dalai Lama act as parade co-marshal. Another is to allow a float or band that represents those opposed to the Beijing float.  ...... more
